11/8 organic: ‘ifconfig -a’ discussions about sunday

Beginning this Sunday we will begin a series of discussions about Sundays. Particularly, why we do the things we do. Have you ever wondered why we gather on Sundays? In the morning? For a service that is 70 minutes long?

We sing songs, we listen to some guy speak who we don’t even know, we drink juice out of really small cups, and we pass baskets around that we put money into.

This is all a bit weird.

Part of taking the next step in your journey of faith is navigating through all of this. The reality is that some people part ways with other people over the details of how the above mentioned components of a 70 minute service are carried out. You may decide to gather with others based on how some of this is done in various church settings.

The questions we want to ask are: Is that ok? Is that consistent with the scriptures? Is it just stupid? Wouldn’t we all be better off if we just slept in?

For the next several weeks we are going to peel the hood back and take a look at the Sunday morning experience and suggest some ways to think about it all that are healthy and some ways that it can be unhealthy.

Join us for the discussion beginning Sunday, November 8th in RM434/435 at 9:15AM. That Sunday also happens to be 2nd Sunday which means after the discussion we will go to the service together, and share a free meal in RM106/107 after the service.
