You gotta own your own journey!
We’re all on a spiritual journey. The questions are, where to? where from? for what? If you are a follower of Jesus, if you have placed your trust and faith in him, you are on a journey to know him more, and spread his message of hope to all who would receive it. As a college-age young adult, you need to own this process. No one else can own it for you. You might be tempted to “hitch your wagon” to a movement that will do that for you, and though that might work for a while, it won’t last, and it will not have been real or authentic.
You have to own your own spiritual journey of faith.
We can come along your side and help you in that process of ownership. We want to help you ask the right questions, and gain new perspectives. We will tirelessly walk with you, but only if that’s what you want. It just can’t be what we want for you, you have to want it. We’re not going to try and push you through some form trying to get you to look like “mini-me’s,” we want you to be you. We would rather come alongside you in the process. If you want us to hold you accountable? that’s fine, but you need to initiate that process. There are few things less pleasant than a friend holding a another friend accountable who does not want to be accountable.
Maybe you have grown up in a Christian community, a local church, and you are trying to sort out the tradition that has been handed to you. Maybe you were taught to accept doctrine without question and without exploration, and now you have the opportunity to ask questions. Maybe you were recently introduced to a life of faith and are trying to figure out what’s next. Maybe past hurt has led you to believe all this Jesus stuff is a joke. Maybe you find the message of Jesus life-giving, but you are just unsure what processes and disciplines you have to own to continue down the path.
